Today, it's the 188th Hearing of the Court case of Irish Girl Danielle MacLaughlin's brutal rape and even more brutal murder at Palolem, South Goa on 14th March 2017.
It was the Holi eve, ironically; when 28 year old Danielle was tortured and killed. The gruesome act is too horrific and disturbing to describe, but a lot of details is available online.
The case (State v/s Vikat Bhagat) which is being heard at Hon'ble District & Session Court, Margao. Advocate PPS Samant is representing the state while Mr.Rajendra Prabhudesai is the IO.
187 hearings since the trial started on 4th Of July 2017, is the testimony to the fact that, while accused is conveniently lodged at Colvale Central Jail; deliberate attempts have been made to just prolong the case, by one pretext or another, and sometimes hilarious excuses on part of State and Prosecution.
Last time, when the Hon'ble Court ordered for the accused to be present for the hearing in February 2023; The Jail Suprintendent sent a wireless message that, accused cannot be produced before the court, because he failed to appear at the main gate on time?
This could go down as the most flimsiest excuse in the history of Indian Judicial System; which makes mockery of the entire trial, and thus the judicial system.
At every hearing, one or other Prosecution Witness or Cross Witness, is not available because, he cannot be produced as he is sick; or the summons are not being served for more than a month.
Anyone who is even remotely familiar with Indian Judicial system, would quickly understand that these are mere delay tactics on part of accused.
It's the responsibility of the State and Prosecution to bring speedy justice to Danielle and her family.
It is hoped that Law & Judiciary Minister of the State of Goa, Mr.Nilesh Cabral would look into the matter and ensure a fast redressal of the case.
