46 Year old British National, Emma Louise Leaning's mysterious death at Agonda, closed as "Unnatural".
Lack of support of Expats from United Kingdom, Worldwide reputation of Goa Police and past precedence of protracted legal battle, behind the reason.
Emma Louise Leaning, 46 year old British National died under mysterious circumstances in the intervening night of 31st December 2023 and 1st January 2024, at Agonda beach, Canacona, Goa.
Even with bewildering questions, her case was registered by Goa Police as "Unnatural Death" and in spite of confounding facts, was not changed to homicide.
Emma Leaning was cremated yesterday at 1600 hrs, at Secular Crematorium in Mormugao.
A regular to Goa and Agonda for past 13-14 years, she would have never imagined that, she would be finally an eternal part of the same soil she walked on all these years. Without any doubt, her favourite holiday place in the world.

With the repatriation cost of a dead body to Europe running into upwards of 7,000 Euros, along with the other legal and diplomatic hassles, the family of Emma took a wise call to conduct the final rites of her, at Goa itself. The place where Emma was happiest.
In spite of a strong expats and tourist community at Agonda, with many from United Kingdom itself, no information has been forthcoming about the sudden and tragic demise of Emma. None of her “friends” have casted any suspicions on her death, and if they do so privately, they have not been vocal about it.
About 9 years back at close by Patnem in Canacona, a Swedish - Finnish National Felix Dahl was found dead.
Undoubtedly murdered, but Goa Police registered the case as Unnatural Death.
The family of Felix decided to fight tooth and nail, against the absurdity of Goa Police and under High Court's direction, finally homicide case was registered.
And an arduous process started all over again. A family already reeling in the grief at the loss of their loved one, a long protracted legal battle from another continent resulted into nought as Goa Police closed the case citing no evidence to support homicide, despite, in the face staring facts.
What happened, how it happened, you can read here.

Even when a family is sure that their loved one's death was a homicide, there are very valid reasons to keep quiet and not to pursue the case, let alone from beyond 7 seas.
Going by the reputation of Goa Police of abysmal investigation and lousy conviction; burgeoning legal bills, never ending hearings of the trial and the mental agony, compiled with grief of the loss; most decide to give up and quietly bury their loved ones , and thus is also buried the truth behind their tragic death.
From Scarlett Kealing to Felix Dahl to Danielle McLaughlin; it is not too difficult to forego pursuing the death of a loved one, as a homicide, by the family of deceased , based in Europe. This must not have been a tough decision for the family of Emma.
Felix Dahl according to Goa Police died while doing cartwheel at the dead of night, fell and hurt his head. Emma Leaning died while jumping a wall in the early hours of New Year Day, fell and hurt her head and spine.
In both the cases, the Post Mortem reports have said that, it was the impact of blunt object on the head, leading to death. But the super sleuths of Goa Police decide to still pursue a case of "Unnatural Death".
For Goa Police, unless they find the blood stains in an apartment by providence, every death is an unnatural death. Or else, the Killer sends them a WA message with a live recording of the murder they have created.
In cases, where the imagination of entire country would run wild, the alacrity of Goa Police is such that the Police Inspector himself is sent to Chitradurga to bring back the culprit and the DGP also visits the crime scene; but Emma Leaning is an open and shut case for them.
She must have decided to celebrate the New year by jumping over the wall; which she did not do in last 12 years and missed the mark, fell over and hurt her head!
The alacrity of Goa Police is such that, even if you write multiple emails from Police Inspector to DGP themselves, it fails to erect even a hair on their body!
Like in the case of Felix Dahl. Since the reputation of Goa Police is worldwide, surely the family of Emma have heard of them in great esteem! And thus decided to not pursue the homicide angle of her death!
Well, for the Expats community from United Kingdom and elsewhere living handsomely on cheap beers, marijuana and hash on the pensions they receive in their home country, the death of a fellow traveller, even from their own country, is a matter of no concern.
These Expats are no better than parasite.
In their own country to maintain the same lifestyle, they would have to either beg, borrow or steal; but here since every local prostate before the white skin, they live life King size.
Not so ironically, honouring a fellow from among themselves who died under mysterious circumstances is not about aiding the pursuit of truth; but to get sloshed with unlimited drinks and hash. After all, why to unsettle their cosy well settled life in Goa on Government's pension. Also, they are neither clean as whistle. Else, someone would have had come out about Emma!
So, a big party is being planned on 14th January tomorrow, by these government pension survivors, to honour Emma!
How cowardly!
None of them have come forward to even proclaim, I was there with Emma that night, and she was heading where?
But, no reason is required to have a party in Goa.
Death should be celebrated after all, even if it is tragic and untimely and suspicious.
Truth is totally entrusted by these Expats to Goa Police conveniently, after all you don't mess with Yohan with muddy clothes on!
Psy and Trance would play at full blast, at Agonda tomorrow evening; with ample dose of Marijuana and Hash, along with "lots of drinks" and later on these parasites Expats would go back to their home, hallucinating what a grand service they did to Emma.
And thus, Emma would be cremated one more time in style, supposedly by her friends, who have no interest in knowing why the heck she would try to climb a wall at the dead of night on New Year Eve, of all nights?
2023-2024 is the most disastrous Tourist Season of all times, except 2020. Even that was better off quite.
Tourism Minister, once a very vocal and bitter enemy of Chief Minister has blamed this on current Geo-Political tensions in the world and the genocides going on. So far, he has not yet blamed the tensions in Red Sea but it might be soon coming!
Over the past years he has collected every sponsored and paid awards in tourism grinning,as if he is a super hero and an avatar of Lord Parshuram, and now is blaming everyone from a road side tea vendor to luxury resorts for over charging and fleecing tourists. Ah, also the Taxi PATRAO!
Being in Government as Minister now, he cannot criticise the weary and torn Goa Police and their singular effort to swiftly close any suspicious death as "Unnatural".
Surely, foreign visitors are so ecstatic on learning this; that, tomorrow if anything untoward happens to them due to mockery and lack of deterrence of Goa Police; for their grieving family members , they would just be another statistics in "Unnatural Death" file.
And if they are all decide to fight, their tears would go on deaf and dumb officers, and the Central Jail Warden and Jailors would take bribe from the accused and ensure that, legal battles last, at least a decade!
A very comforting and ensuring feeling for all the prospective foreigner tourists, specially women! It is bewildering in spite of all this, why they are not willing to come to Goa!
The next Tourist Season is going to be more tragic and disastrous for Goa and outsiders who have paid the pimps and touts to do business here.
Already many have gone bankrupt this season, with salary being not paid to staff.
Despite the fact that Goa is the place where Justice is blind and the Police is so empathetic and emotionally connected to foreign tourists, that all suspicious and mysterious deaths are closed or forced to close as Unnatural.
Going by the scheme of things and current state of affairs of Goa, "Unnatural" should be declared as the "National Word Of Goa"; with Tourism Minister Khaunte and Chief Minister Sawant now being blossom pals, should not be too difficult of an enterprise!
Viva "Unnatural" Goa!
