A tale of 2 Governors of Goa : Mr.Satya Pal Malik & PS Pillai
While Mr.Satya Pal Malik who spoke for people of Goa and took Mhadei to PM Modi, Pillai chose to remain mum on issue in the adress to assembly yesterday.
A Governor's speech at the start of the assembly session, is a worthless exercise, specially when the Government of Goa, mandated only 4 days for the Winter Assembly Session of 2023.
1 whole day dedicated to a parroted speech, written by the Government and recited by the Governor.
While the Govenors are not known to be diverging even a centimeter from the toed line of "their government", Governor PS Pillai could have made a difference, here; on which he absolutely failed.
The Governor is the Chief Executive of the State, while there are no social responsibilities listed under the role of the Governor, as the CEO of the State, he is liable to display empathy towards the people of the state, at least.
And there is no better way to do that, when there is a mass agitation and people of the state of Goa, are furious about the failure of the State Government on river Mhadei issue.
The Governor's words are not counted as assurances, because, after all they are the words of the ruling government, but they could act as a balm to assuage people's feelings. Give them the hope, that at least someone out there is listening to them and acting.
Once Goa had a Governor, who really acted like "Chief Executive" of the State, voicing people's opinions, urging the Government to act on the matters of concerns of the people; his name was Mr. Satya Pal Malik.
Mr.Satya Pal Malik, lived true to his name and always belligerently supported the truth, or the conquest of truth. He became such an irritant to the Pramod Sawant Government, that within 10 months he was transferred to far-flung Meghalaya.
While the present Governor of Goa was mum on Mhadei issue, it was Mr.Satya Pal Mali who took the Mhadei issue to PM Modi and got the assurance that Goa would not suffer injustice. The Environment approval granted by Centre to Karnataka was kept in abeyance, only due to the efforts of Mr.Satya Pal Malik.
The only Governor in recent history of Goa, Mr.Satya Pal Malik, who was pro-people and voice of the people of Goa.
Mr.Satya Pal Malik proved that a Governor as a Chief Executive of the State has to be a people's person of the state, whom she/he is leading and not mere a puppet, and lacking own voice.
If Mr.Satya Pal Malik would still have been Governor of Goa, things would have been way different, with both Mhadei and the quality of governance which Goa gets now.
Mr.Satya Pal Malik, truly acted like the Governor of Goa, by voicing people's concerns while the present Governor PS Pillai, chose to not even utter a single word about Mhadei.
Mr.Governor Malik, we at Goa, miss you sorely.
