Danielle McLaughlin Trial : The "Benefit of Doubt" period is over for Goa Police.
Friday, the 19th May would decide whether Goa Police aids criminals and abets crimes, or not?
Prudence says that however, unreasonable a situation may sound; and however unreasonable the acts of the opposite party be, it is important to give them the "benefit of doubt".
The origin of the expression "benefit of doubt" is believed to have evolved from the legal system. This principle is based on the idea that it is better to give the accused the benefit of the doubt rather than assume guilt without sufficient evidence.
Over time, the concept of the "benefit of the doubt" has been applied more broadly in society, and now refers to the practice of giving someone the benefit of a favorable interpretation or explanation when their actions or motives are unclear or uncertain. It is essentially a way of showing trust or extending the benefit of the doubt to someone when we are not sure about their intentions or actions.
While giving "the benefit of doubt" may seems outrageous in some cases, like Goa Police not producing the accused Vikat Bhagat, who raped and murdered Danielle McLaughlin, for the 7th consecutive time, last Friday ie 5th of May 2023. But, even then, sometimes, in order to gain trust, it is prudent, to do it, for one last time.
"Benefit of doubt" is often used in situations where there is not enough evidence to support a particular conclusion, or when the evidence is ambiguous or contradictory. By giving someone the benefit of the doubt, we are essentially saying that we are willing to believe the best about them until we have more information or evidence to the contrary.
Though, in the case of Danielle McLaughlin's trial, there is ample direct and indirect evidence, that Goa Police has been siding with the accused and willingly helping him, to avoid the harshness of trial, by all flimsy means possible. But even then, for the uncouth actions of Goa Police in past couple of months, we would like to be gracious, and give Goa Police, the benefit.Municipal Elections are now over.G20 Summit meetings are over. Union Home Minister's visit is over.Budget session of Goa Assembly is over.Peak tourist season is now over also.
So, now, there should not be an excuse for "shortage of police escorts", in order to be not able to produce the rapist and murderer Vikat Bhagat in court, who had himself confessed to the dastardly crime at the beginning.
There has been an immense outrage all over Ireland (1), over the inordinate delay in trial (2), It was to be fast-tracked, but now going on for more than 6 years. (3)
While taking cognizance of people's outrage usually fell over on deaf ears, in India; but people and leadership of Ireland are now committed that, the injustice meted out to Danielle and her family, don't get the same fate.
It is now paramount, that Goa Police does it's duty, towards the victim and her family. Any further lame excuses towards not producing Vikat Bhagat in court, would mean, one and only thing : Goa Police is aiding a Criminal which is in judicial custody and abetting future crimes. While "aiding" is pretty clear on the face itself here; "Abetting" has been added because, if a criminal is shielded by the government and establishment itself; it encourages and promotes, other criminals to be more bold and brazen, because the fear for the "rule of law" diminishes.
Danielle McLaughlin's next hearing, which would be the 194th hearing, would be held on, next Friday ie 19th of May 2023. The gracious "benefit of doubt" period for Goa Police is over now. Next Friday, would decide, whether Goa Police is complicit in "aiding" criminals and "abetting" crimes or not.
