Why the Investigation Officer (IO) of Goa Police was so adamant that death was the result of an accidental fall? : Felix Dahl Murder at Patnem, Goa.
The stance of Canacona Police never changed from the beginning till end, despite several presentations made by Felix's Mother and family.
A Medico-legal autopsy is conducted to ascertain the cause of death, time of death, identification of the deceased, etc. in unnatural and/or suspicious deaths.
With the aid of circumstantial evidence found by IO( Investigation Officer), usually, at least it could be diagnosed in a sufficient manner, whether the death could have been a homicide candidate or not.
In the case of Felix Dahl death, the autopsy concluded, that there were multiple skull fractures (5 of them), along with other injury marks on the body, which during later part of investigation, another Doctor confirmed, who have been treating Felix, were not present, even a day before.
But still, Canacona Police and the IO of Felix case (who is now the PI of Anjuna Police Station) concluded that, Felix death was caused due to an accidental fall.
"As per the preliminary inquiry of the Investigation Officer it appeared that the deceased might have had an accidental fall at the edge of the tar road which had stone border and might have sustained bleeding cut injuries and remained unattended at the same place for a long time, due to which he had succumbed to the injuries."
The above said observation by the IO, in that preliminary inquiry, was never changed, in spite of vehement protest by Felix Dahl mother. Canacona Police of Goa, maintained the status quo, that the death was the result of an accidental fall.
Interesting and very important thing to note here is the use of the word "might".
"Might have had an accidental fall!" and "might have sustained bleeding cut injuries".
For the fact that, IO himself was not sure of his judgement, but was adamant on his flimsy argument from the beginning till the end.
This was not the unvarnished truth, that an IO is expected to find.
How can someone have multiple skull fractures, and other injuries on the body, from an accidental fall?
Canacona Police contention was that Felix was an acrobat and would have been doing some kind of stunt at the dead of night, on a paved tar road?
These are such basic questions, which could come to mind of a layman also; but in this case these questions never bothered the mind of the IO?
Why?
And he is deemed so proficient in his duty and line of work, that he now leads, Anjuna Police Station at North Goa?
Felix Dahl murder must be the only case in India, where a person dies mysteriously in the dead of night, medico-legal autopsy conludes multiple skull fracture leading to hemorrhage and IO concludes that it is due to an accidental fall.
The use of "might" word twice in the report amply suggests that IO did not even bother to consult other eminent doctors or Forensic expert to conclude this. Else, their observations would have at least been made available.
The IO, from the moment go, decided to make it an Open and Shut case. While Felix Dahl's family pleaded and cried to have a thorough investigation and a re-look at the circumstantial evidence and other facts presented by them.
Why did the IO of Canacona Police, acted in such malafide manner on whose pretext?
